The Portfolio Health Score is a composite score from 4 key metrics that gives you an instant read on how well-constructed your dividend portfolio is.

The 4 metrics are:
1. Income Quality  - how consistent and reliable your dividend payers are
2. Diversification  - how well spread your portfolio is across sectors and currencies
3. Tax Efficiency  - how well you're using your ISA allowance and managing the £500 dividend allowance
4. Risk Flags  - concentration risk, high-yield red flags, and other warning signs

Each metric gets a letter grade from A+ to F, and the composite score (out of 100) reflects your overall portfolio health.

The score is designed to help you see at a glance where your portfolio is strong and where it needs attention  - without telling you what to buy or sell (that would be regulated financial advice). It's a factual snapshot, not a recommendation.

What is "True Income" and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

True Income is your dividend income AFTER all taxes are deducted -not the headline "gross yield" that other apps show.

Here's why it matters: A US stock showing a 4% yield actually pays you around 3.4% after 15% withholding tax. If that stock is in your GIA (not ISA) and you've exceeded your £500 dividend allowance, you'll lose another 8.75-39.35% to UK tax depending on your bracket.

Nestor calculates all of this automatically. We show your TRUE forward income (net), your gross income for comparison, and exactly how much is being withheld. This is the number that actually matters for planning your financial independence -because it's the money that hits your bank account.

Question 3

How does the Independence Projection work?

Accepted Answer

The Independence Projection  - shown as True Income Coverage  - calculates exactly when your dividend income will cover your target monthly spending.

Here's how it works:
1. You set your target (e.g., £1,000/month to cover basic expenses)
2. Nestor uses your TRUE net income (not gross) as the starting point
3. We simulate portfolio growth using your:
   - Current portfolio yield
   - Monthly contribution amount
   - Assumed dividend growth rate
   - Whether you reinvest dividends
4. The projection shows your exact target date (e.g., "Target: Nov 2030  - 5 years")
5. Milestone bars show your Year 1, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 income projections

Important: We use your NET income, not gross. Other calculators might say you'll be free in 3 years using inflated gross yields  - we show the realistic timeline.

How does Nestor track the £500 dividend allowance?

Accepted Answer

Nestor automatically tracks your UK dividend allowance usage for the current tax year (6 April - 5 April).

On the Insights screen, you'll see:
- A progress bar showing your allowance usage with percentage
- Your estimated tax liability if you exceed the allowance
- A breakdown of ISA (tax-free) vs GIA (taxable) dividends

The allowance only applies to GIA dividends -ISA dividends are completely tax-free. Nestor shows this split clearly with exact amounts and percentages for each account type.

We also let you configure your tax bracket (Basic 8.75%, Higher 33.75%, or Additional 39.35%) so you can see exactly how exceeding the allowance would affect your tax bill.

What withholding taxes does Nestor track?

Nestor tracks withholding taxes by market, showing exactly how much is deducted from each region's dividends:

- US Stocks: 15% (with W-8BEN treaty)
- UK Stocks: 0% (no withholding on UK dividends)
- EU Stocks: ~15% (varies by country, we use treaty rates)
- Australian Stocks: 30%
- Canadian Stocks: 15%

On the Insights screen, you'll see your withholding taxes broken down by market -showing exactly how much you're losing to each region's tax rules.

This is split by ISA and GIA, so you can see withholding taxes for each account type separately. Understanding these deductions helps you make smarter decisions about which stocks to hold in which account type.

- Early Access Members: We're still deciding on benefits -likely discounted or grandfathered pricing

Why free? We're a small team building the dividend tracker we wished existed. During Early Access, we want real UK investors using the app, finding issues, and suggesting features. Your feedback shapes the product.

There are no hidden catches. No premium tiers with the "good features" locked away. No data selling. You get the full app, completely free, while we're in Early Access.

How does Nestor work with Trading212?

Accepted Answer

Nestor uses Trading212's CSV export feature to import your portfolio data. Here's the process:

1. In Trading212, go to History → Export → Download CSV
2. In Nestor, tap the + button and select "Import Portfolio"
3. Choose your account type (ISA or GIA)
4. Select your CSV file

Nestor parses every transaction: buys, sells, dividends received, fees, and stamp duty. We match each holding to our market data to fetch current prices, dividend schedules, and company information.

Your data stays on your device -we don't upload your Trading212 transactions to any server. The CSV file is processed locally, and your holdings are stored in a secure local database on your phone.

You can import multiple CSV files (e.g., one for ISA, one for GIA) to see your complete portfolio across account types.

Is my Trading212 data safe and secure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your portfolio data never leaves your device.

Here's how we handle your data:
- CSV Processing: Done entirely on your phone, not on any server
- Holdings Storage: Stored in a local encrypted database on your device
- Market Data: We fetch prices and dividends from our servers, but we don't upload YOUR holdings
- No Account Linking: We never ask for your Trading212 login credentials

The only data that touches our servers:
- Anonymous analytics (app usage, not your portfolio)
- Market data requests (stock prices, dividend schedules)

We're fully GDPR compliant and registered with the UK ICO. You can delete all your data at any time from the app's settings menu.

Does Nestor work with other UK brokers besides Trading212?

Accepted Answer

Currently, Nestor is optimised for Trading212 CSV imports. We've built deep integration with their export format, including:
- Automatic recognition of ISA vs GIA transactions
- Stamp duty tracking
- Dividend payment parsing
- Fee and FX conversion handling

We're exploring support for other UK brokers including:
- Freetrade
- InvestEngine
- AJ Bell
- Hargreaves Lansdown
- Interactive Investor

Each broker has a different export format, so adding support takes development time. If you'd like to see your broker supported, let us know through the feedback option in the app -we prioritise based on demand.
